#105 No Longer Among Them                                                                            March 2, 2014

It’s a fact, you know.  It’s not just the name of a movie from the 1930’s, not just a comic book serial, not just a hit television series.  It’s a fact.  They exist.  We were once them and among them!

Ephesians 2:1-2 explains it.
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

“Dead,” It says we were, “in trespasses and sins” in verse one.  But “walked,” It says we did, “according to the course of this world” in verse two.

Now, take a breath.  Hold on to your hat.  Here it is:

We were once the walking dead and among the walking dead.  Oh yes, we had the physical life that enabled us to walk or live according to “the course of this world.”  But the spiritual life God had originally willed for all humanity when He made, formed and created Adam, died with him by his willful disobedience.

Romans 5:17 explains that.
(…For if by one man's offence [Adam’s willfull disobedience] death [the death of spiritual life] reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness [God’s gift of holy spirit, spiritual life from God, the new birth] shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

It was God’s only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who stepped up where the first human had struck out.  It was God’s only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who championed our redemption from the horror of being among the walking dead.

It wasn’t a group of scientists hidden away in some underground lab tirelessly experimenting until they “discovered” spiritual life from God.  It wasn’t the people’s choice politician or some pseudo-Eastern philosopher who suddenly rose to heroic stature and led humanity down the shining pathway to spiritual life from God.  And it certainly isn’t the vipers and scorpions at the helm of the religions of the world today, including “modern” so-called Christianity, that can usher us into spiritual life from God.

No! No! No! No!  It is God’s only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ who, by his free will and according to the Will of the Almighty God, is the captain of our salvation.

Hebrews 2:10 explains that.
For it became him, [God] for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation [the Lord Jesus Christ] perfect through sufferings.

It was God Almighty Who wanted human children with spiritual life from Him in the very beginning.  It was God Almighty Who promised the coming of His Son who would redeem humanity from the horror of the death of spiritual life --  the horror of being the walking dead -- that Adam brought upon us by his disobedience.

To the hordes of humanity staggering through life with endlessly outstretched hands, grasping with greater and greater frustration at the flickering shadows of the course of this world, we now stand as the beacons to spiritual life from God by His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

We can explain Romans 10:9 and 10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

That’s deliverance from the walking dead.  That’s salvation and redemption.  That’s the new birth. That’s born of God.
