John 1:35  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples [emphasis added];
36  And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37  And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus [emphasis added].
38  Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39  He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40  One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41  He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, had been a disciple of John the Baptist.  But after John the Baptist said of Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God” - Andrew followed him and became a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Andrew was among the twelve disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ noted in chapter ten of Matthew’s Gospel.

Matthew 10:1  And when he [the Lord Jesus Christ] had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease [emphasis added].
2  Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Andrew didn’t simply choose Jesus over John.  He chose to continue in the Word regarding the Lord Jesus Christ which John the Baptist had first made known to him.

About twelve men, as recorded in Acts chapter nineteen, made a similar choice.

Acts 19:1  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples [emphasis added],
2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3  And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7  And all the men were about twelve.

These men had been disciples of what John the Baptist had taught.  If they had continued in the Word that John the Baptist had taught they would have never received the new birth spirit.  They would have never operated any of the abilities received in the new birth - like the manifestations of speaking in tongues and prophecy mentioned in verse six.  Students of the accuracy of God’s Word will no doubt recognize that what the Apostle Paul taught these men would have included the Truth of the Mystery of God’s Will in all that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished.  It was disciples of the Mystery of God’s Will in all that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished who played a vital role in the outreach of God’s Word that followed this event.

Acts 19:8  And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9  But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus [emphasis added].
10  And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

True disciples today - true continuing-in-the-Word-type folks today - are those who continue in the Truth of the Mystery of God’s Will in ALL that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished.  What else would we do until our lord returns for us?
