#110 Pray Without Ceasing                                                                           September 7, 2014

I was praying about some things with a dear friend of mine not too long ago.  I was praying aloud with my understanding while my dear friend spoke in tongues silently regarding the needs and concerns we were praying about.

Just after we finished our prayer together I said, “Wait a second, I forgot something,” and we continued.

(Even though in that circumstance I was praying with another wonderful believer, I must say that, more often than not, my private prayer life is very similar.
“Oh, and I forgot to mention this, Heavenly Father.”
“There’s also that, Heavenly Father.”
“Excuse me, Heavenly Father, my mind wandered but I’m back now.”

After all, I’m talking privately to my God and Heavenly Father -  just Him and me.  My friend and my brother, my Lord Jesus Christ, accomplished the confident access to the Creator of the heavens and earth that I now enjoy as His child.)

Later on, after we had prayed together, I thought of the countless times in decades past when I’d been with another person, the two of us discussing critical matters with someone very, very important, when I’d been responsible to speak for us both - but I’d forgotten an important detail.

Oh, the shame.  Oh, the embarrassment.  Oh, the mental gymnastics.
“Should we go back and ask for another few minutes of their time?”
“Can’t we just take care of it ourselves?”
“Does he or she really need to know?”

My dear friend and I were praying/talking to the Creator of the heavens and earth, the Lord God Almighty and -- HE'S MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL. Yet, with my memory lapse came no sense of shame, no embarrassment, no mental gymnastics.

Peace?  Yes!  Thanksgiving?  Yes!  Confident candor?  Yes!  Why not?  My dear friend and I were praying/talking to our Heavenly Father Who had instructed us to do exactly what we were doing, in His Word addressed to us.

Philippians 4:6:
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

The door never closes.  There’s no scheduled time.  In fact, take all the time you need.

1 Thessalonians  5:17:
Pray without ceasing.
