#136 What's Your Opinion?                                                                              April 2, 2017

Everyone has opinions about the current events they’re confronted with or surrounded by, be it politics, societal changes and upheavals - or even the current circumstances of their lives.  As they say, “Everyone has the right to their own opinion.”

Very few, if any, of the opinions we hear day by day reflect even a rudimentary knowledge of God’s Word and much less, the operation of the revelation manifestations.  If those two criteria were the standard for having an opinion to begin with instead of the current standard (which seems to be simply the ability to talk), the opinions we hear would most certainly change or the silence would be deafening - and wouldn’t that be nice?  One of the records in God’s Word is very enlightening along this line.

2 Kings 6:9  And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither
          the Syrians are come down.
10  And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there,
          not once nor twice.
11  Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto
them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
12  And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel
the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
13  And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in
          Dothan.
14  Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city
          about.
15  And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both
with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16  And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17  And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of
the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

The prayer of Elisha for this young man and the revelation the young man then received, certainly would have altered his opinion of the current events that day, don’t you think?

What is interesting about current events is that they are only “current.”  They constantly change.  The Truth of God’s Word is not subject to those changes as the events themselves are.  What is a fact today may not be a fact tomorrow.  God’s Word is not subject to economic, political or societal circumstances.  It’s simply TRUE.

Matthew 10:29  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Those of us who have confessed the Lord Jesus and believed God raised him from the dead have a fixed position spiritually in the world today.  Our rights, privileges and abilities are not affected by current events.  Therefore our opinions should reflect who we are as the children of the Most High God in the world today.  The accomplished work of the Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest reality in the world today.  That should be the foundation of all our opinions.

Hebrews 13:8  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
