#137 Human Accomplishments                                                                             June 4, 2017

To one degree or another, all of humanity lives their lives today as a result of the actions of other humans.

The recent Memorial Day we had here in the United States is certainly a testimony to that fact.  We recognized on that day and therefore honored the military personnel who died in the service of our country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.  The freedoms we enjoy in our country today are a direct result of their service on our behalf, and every citizen of the United States of America should be grateful.

Our daily lives in the United States are governed, enhanced, inconvenienced, improved or even injured by the actions of other humans.  We even have telephone directories and internet search engines that enable us to take advantage of goods and services available from other humans.

Most of us wouldn’t consider ignoring all the advancements in our society brought about by the actions and accomplishments of other human beings, would we?  Do you know anyone that travels by an ox-drawn cart or prepares three meals a day at the cooking fire in their front yard?  Perhaps I should say: do you know anyone who chooses dial-up internet or prefers a cell phone carried in a bag?

Whether it’s recognized or not, the two humans who have affected all of us by their actions and accomplishments in the greatest ways are the first Adam and the second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ.

     1 Corinthians 15:45 and 22:
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

The first Adam, by his actions on behalf of human kind, accomplished death - while the second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ, by his actions on behalf of all human kind, accomplished life.

     Romans 5:17-18:
For if by one man's [Adam’s] offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the
gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.
Therefore as by the offence of one [Adam] judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness
of one [the Lord Jesus Christ] the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Ephesians reveals even more about what the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished by his actions, for all humans who have received God’s gift of holy spirit.

     Ephesians 2:18:
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Who among us would choose to live as if cell phones, automobiles, etc. did not even exist?  Yet they are available simply because of the actions of other humans and we could certainly make the best use of them.

Christians, however, should also choose to live in the greater reality of the unchanging and perfect accomplishments of the greatest human who ever lives, the Lord Jesus Christ.

     Galatians 2:20:
… but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who
loved me, and gave himself for me.
