#138 A Helping Hand                                                                                       August 6, 2017

I needed a little help with something the other day.  It wasn’t an emergency or a catastrophe.  I just couldn’t deal with it on my own and it troubled me.  I had prayed about it.  I’d done my best to believe the Word of God that I knew was applicable regarding the situation.  But I wasn’t receiving what I knew was available from God.

If my car wasn’t working correctly I would have sought out a competent mechanic.  If my sink wouldn’t drain I would have sought out a competent plumber.  But I needed to receive healing from God.  I needed a competent Christian believer, someone who could operate the power of God, another member of the Body of Christ.  I needed someone to help me who enjoyed the same rights, privileges and abilities that I do in God’s wonderful family.

Thankfully a believer was close by so I asked them to assist me.  I asked them to pray for me.  Later, after they helped me, I thought of God’s Word in Mark chapter 9.

Mark 9:14  And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15  And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16  And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
    17  And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18  And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I
spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19  He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him
    unto me.
20  And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and
    wallowed foaming.
21  And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22  And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have
compassion on us, and help us.
23  Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

This father wanted healing from God for his son.  Evidently, he approached receiving that healing much the same as you and I might approach getting our car fixed.  We drop it off with the mechanic and when it is fixed we pick it up.  We have nothing to do with the repair.  That’s the mechanic’s job and we expect him to do it.

The Lord Jesus Christ did not allow this father to treat him the way we might treat an auto mechanic or a plumber.  He required believing on the part of this father who sought healing for his son.

Believers today in the Body of Christ are so abundantly blessed in what we have as God’s children.  We all enjoy an individual relationship with our Heavenly Father by the accomplished work of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  We all have individual unfettered access to our Heavenly Father.  We can all believe His Word individually and we can all operate all 9 manifestations and enjoy the multitude of the other rights and privileges we have as the sons and daughters of the Most High God.

But at times we all need a “leg up,” a “helping hand,” a little help in receiving from God what we know is available.  At those times we have the joy of asking another believer in whom we have confidence - according to God’s Word - to assist us in receiving from God.  However - if they are able - the believer seeking assistance is just as responsible to trust God as the person providing the assistance.
