#75 There is Only One Standard                                                           February 7, 2010

I think it is beyond the scope of the human mind to comprehend the calamity, the confusion, the catastrophe of living in a world with no comparative factual or truthful standards; a world devoid of any means by which to measure or accurately evaluate the veracity of anything.

Appointments could not be made or kept because any accurate standardized method of measuring time would not exist.  All systems of measurement, period, would be unknown in such a world.  No inches, no meters, no pounds, no wattage, no gallons, no cubits, no way to measure anything because no standardized, center of factual reference would exist.  Nothing of any consequence could be constructed.  Industry would be unknown.  Human kind across the globe would live in hovels and caves enslaved to an endless cycle of trial and error trying to accomplish even the most mundane of repetitive tasks.  Who can possibly conceive of such a world?

We have standardized factual reference points for almost every aspect of human life.  Tape measures, yard sticks, speedometers, mileage markers, numbering systems, alphabets, dictionaries, clocks, stopwatches, recipes, measuring cups, thermometers, thermostats, volt meters, altimeters, Geiger counters, almost everything in our material world is subject to a universally accepted factual standard.  Man has successfully established factual standards for almost everything in his world but continues to fail at recognizing the single center of reference for Truth for himself.

By what standard is man to be evaluated as to good and evil, positive or negative, worthy or worthless?  Are human kind to be ultimately judged by how they relate to their environment?  Are we to be evaluated, measured, weighed by how we respond to “mother” nature?  Is it how we respond to our kings or other types of authority, either national or global, that is our sole and soul center of reference for truth?  Is it according to societal norms or codes of conduct by which our life and lives are to be examined?  Or is each man or woman their own reference point for establishing the Truth regarding themselves as we follow our own stars, paths, journeys, the dictates of our own hearts?

The only humans who have never pondered questions like these are those who have died quickly with no advanced warning, for it is a fact of life that when death is near, life is pondered.

The ancient Greeks pondered questions like these and there is a historical record of a meeting they organized about the middle of the first century because one man introduced the Truth regarding life and living to them.  That record is found in Acts chapter 17 beginning in verse 22.
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord [God], if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

That’s the sole and soul purpose of man.

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained [the Lord Jesus Christ]; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him [the Lord Jesus Christ] from the dead.
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.
33 So Paul departed from among them.
34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Perhaps those who want to know the Truth regarding our lives today should follow the example of Dionysius, Damaris and the others with them and come to God’s Word.  Not to man’s device, be it religious or political or philosophical, but God’s Word.

There’s only one man who ever lived whose beliefs, opinion, perspective, view, stance, position or platform ever mattered and that was the Lord Jesus Christ.  His stated position is found in
John 4:34:
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him [God] that sent me, and to finish his work.
And he did, and he died and God raised him from the dead and that is God’s assurance to us that he is the lord of all and it is by the standard of the righteousness he accomplished to which everyone else will be held.

The greatest of the “what do you think?” questions is:
What do you think of the Lord Jesus Christ?
The greatest thing anyone can ever say is that:
Jesus Christ is the lord and my lord.
The Truest thing anyone can ever believe is that:
God Almighty raised His only begotten Son from the dead to die no more.
Romans 10:9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

What the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished is the one Truthful standard by which every life will be judged.
There’s only one standard.

Learning remains an exciting adventure.
